Testing the Pan With Challenging Filipino Cuisine
Despite its spotlights on Food Network and Netflix’s Street Food, Filipino food is generally an underrated cuisine that sometimes young Filipino Americans who live on their own, like me, don’t even eat on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, I love my culture’s dishes, but it’s just not the easiest to make for beginner cooks.
Then again, if this one beloved pan can get Filipino food results to look as good as they do on Instagram, I knew it was at least worth a try. I put the “ultimate” pan to the test by making popular Filipino dishes like pancit and siomai with the Always Pan. Of course, it was all under my mom’s supervision.
Non-Stick Means No Stressful Clean Up at the End of a Meal

To impart flavor in the Filipino noodle dish of pancit, my family and I add a lot of garlic, soy sauce and other seasonings which tend to brown and stick to the bottom of the pan. That wasn’t the case with the Always Pan, and due to its non-stick coating, all the residue wiped right off when I was ready to move on to another component of the meal.
Beyond ingredients coming right off with a simple paper towel wipe followed by a light soap rinse, the fact that I made an entire meal using just two pieces of cookware is the real win. Typically, I’d have so much more to wash which is another deterrent to cooking. With no pile of pans utensils and dishes waiting for me after the meal, this versatile Always Pan changed my outlook. I’ll be spending more time in the kitchen which makes the $115 sale price well worth it for me.

The pan is designed to not only be the perfect size and shape to do the work of the cookware you have in your cabinets, and it looks good too if you decide to leave it out and within easy reach. The single pan can replace all of these items: a fry pan, saute pan, steamer, skillet, saucier, saucepan, non-stick pan, spatula, and spoon rest.
This pan is also something I’d actually be proud to display on my stovetop. Similar to a timeless Le Creuset dutch oven, there’s no denying the elegant design of the Always Pan. Each purchase also comes with a stylish wooden spoon that fits perfectly on the handle as it doubles as a spoon rest.

After combining the seasoning with vegetables, chicken and shrimp, it was time to boil the noodles. Instead of bringing out another pot, I set the veggie, meat and seafood mixture on a plate to the side and boiled the noodles on top of the accompanying Always Pan colander. This accessory made it easy to strain the water out when the noodles were ready and throw everything back together in the pan.
Since the pan was already hot, I added a little bit of water to the bottom, placed the colander on top and was on my way to making siomai, also known as Filipino dumplings. As soon as I placed the little dumplings in there, I simply popped on the lid and it was smooth sailing. In the end, I had a plate full of perfectly cooked Filipino siomai.
While it was clearly not an issue to steam food using the colander the pan came with, Our Place also sells a Spruce Steamer that makes it even easier to achieve perfectly cooked fish, dumplings, tamales and more. Helpful Tip: Watch Your Heat

The only thing to note is that since it’s made out of ceramic, the handles and parts of the pan retain a lot of heat. Don’t forget this if you have a habit of grabbing the handles of frying pans when you’re cooking. For instance, I also used the pan to make breakfast, and it was pretty hot when I accidentally held the handle to flip pancakes. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the pan is not oven-safe (unlike Le Creuset cookware) and is recommended to only be used on low to medium heat.
