The PlayStation 5 is one of the hottest selling consoles in recent history, and some players are still struggling to find one in the wild. The PS5 was originally released in November 2020, but restocks have been challenging for many consumers. This is true even for Costco, which has had a hard time keeping new PS5 consoles on the shelves. Costco members have had some success with restocks though, so we’re breaking down what you need to know about picking up a PS5 from Costco.

Does Costco Have the PS5 in Stock?

Unfortunately, Costco doesn’t seem to have any PS5 consoles in stock at the moment. The last major restock was in January 2022, but it’s possible that more consoles could be arriving any day now.

If you want to stay up to date on PS5 deals and restocks, set a Deal Alert and you’ll get a notification when a relevant offer goes live.

Does Costco Have the Best Best Price on PS5 Consoles?

There are currently two different versions of the PS5, one with a disc-drive for $499 and one without for $399. While Costco has not offered any discounts for the consoles alone, they did offer a bundle deal that saved members some money.

For a brief time, you could order a PS5 bundle that included Marvel’s Spider-Man, two controllers, and a one-month subscription to PlayStation Now for $639.99.

Since the console is so popular, retailers haven’t been incentivized to offer many PS5 discounts. Whether you’re shopping at Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, or any other major retailer, you’re probably going to end up paying the same price if you’re even lucky enough to find one in stock at all.

Does Costco’s Generous Warranty Cover PS5?

Costco usually offers a robust warranty policy known as the Concierge Two Plus Two Warranty that can guarantee certain products for up to 4 years. While this warranty applies to some electronics like televisions, computers, and major appliances, the warranty does not extend to video game consoles.

The PS5 does come with a one-year warranty directly from Sony, however, so you do have some protection from defects if your console has issues within the first year after your purchase.

Do You Need a Costco Membership to Buy the PS5 at Costco?

Yes, you must have a Costco membership to shop at Costco. This includes shopping both in-store and online, so you would need to shell out for a membership if you intend on picking up a PS5 from Costco. Memberships start at $60 for one year, but you can also sign up for an Executive Membership for $120 a year and receive some additional perks, such as 2% cashback on purchases at Costco.

If you don’t intend on joining Costco, you can always tag along with a friend who is a member when you’re ready to shop there.

Can I Return a PS5 to Costco and Get a Refund If I’m Not Satisfied?

Yes, Costco offers a 90-day window to return electronics if customers are not satisfied with the product. If the product isn’t damaged, you can return it within the 90-day window and receive a full refund. It may even be possible to return the item without the original receipt, but this is not always the case and it’s best to save your receipt in the event that you have to make a return.

How is the PS5 Different from the PS4?

If you’re not sure whether you need the latest console or if an older model will satisfy your gaming needs, there are some things you need to know. The PS4 Pro was the most powerful PlayStation model before the release of the PS5, and you can currently pick up a pre-owned or refurbished console for about $400. So a used PS4 is about as expensive as a new PS5, especially if you opt for the version without a disc drive. So already it makes more sense to go with the PS5, and that’s not even addressing the difference in hardware.

  • For one, the PS5 is a more powerful console by every measurement. It’s got a better graphics card, more powerful CPU, and an impressive internal SSD.
  • What’s more, the PS5 introduced the new DualSense controllers that have some unique features including a robust haptic feedback system.

All in all, the PS5 is vastly superior to the PS4, and springing for the PS5 with a disc drive means that you can play PS4 games anyway.

The final thing to consider is availability and, surprisingly, both consoles are almost equally difficult to find new. Most retailers have sold out of new PS4 consoles and, unlike the PS5, there are no plans on restocking the older models. At this point, you might as well save your money for a PS5 rather than purchasing an older model at a similar price tag.

Remember to set a Deal Alert to be notified when a deal on PlayStation 5 consoles hits the web.
