Reading Time: 2 minutesThe nationwide $5 Footlong faded out more than a decade ago, and its ghost still haunts just about every Subway thread online. These days the real savings run through Subway’s free Sub Club rewards program instead, and right now there are two offers worth loading before you order: a buy one, get one free footlong and a discounted after-hours option, both with a participation catch worth checking first.
Here’s what you’ll need to know before you order:
Subway’s Two Current Deals, Explained
Both offers run through Subway’s Sub Club rewards account, which is free to join.
For the buy one, get one free deal, log in to your rewards account, redeem the offer on the offers page, and place a qualifying order with two footlongs, at which point the second comes off. Note that this offer expires July 31.
If you tend to eat later in the day, the alternative is a $7 Footlong after 5 p.m., which applies to a single footlong once you redeem the offer and place the order after 5 p.m. local time. Free pickup is included on both. The one thing to confirm before you count on it: these are select-location promotions, so pricing and participation vary by store. On timing, this deal runs a little longer, through August 2.
If you want to push the cost down further, the move is to stack these rewards offers on top of discounted Subway gift cards, which regularly surface at grocery and warehouse stores. Community member LoM_DBIW made the same point in the thread, noting that discounted gift cards are how you get closer to the old bargain pricing people remember. A couple of members also mentioned that Subway’s app tends to handle checkout more reliably than the website, so it’s worth ordering there if the site gives you trouble.
The value here depends on your local menu, but with a single footlong now commonly running $9 or more, buying two and getting one free brings the effective price to roughly half that per sandwich, which is about the closest anyone gets to that old $5 number today. This deal has earned a score of +163 with 54 comments and more than 42,000 views, though much of the conversation is pure nostalgia for a time of sandwich deals gone by.
