Self-care is extremely important, so important that Oscar Mayer stepped up its meat game to give us all the product we never asked for — a bologna face mask. From the comments on their Facebook promo, no one actually could pinpoint why exactly a cold-cuts and lunch meat company would veer into the beauty lane especially so many months before April Fools’ Day.

Oscar Mayer Bologna Mask on Amazon

Despite this ‘jumping the shark’ marketing ploy, the $4.99 masks sold out on Amazon within hours. Thankfully (?), they are back in stock, so grab yours while they are still available. The masks don’t have an expiration until the end of 2023 if you wanted to stock up on gag gifts.

Unbeknownst to me, I was Oscar Mayer’s target audience because I bought one as soon as I saw the Facebook ad drop. Now I share my experience with you, while also resisting the attempt to continually reference any Hannibal Lecter in my review.

Is the Oscar Mayer Bologna Mask for Real?

The short answer: Yes. Believe it or not, the Bologna Mask is actually a genuine beauty product designed by Seoul Mamas, a private label Korean sheet mask company.
One note, the mask is real, but not real meat (in case that was not clear already). As the large font on the back of the packaging reads: “DO NOT EAT BOLOGNA MASKS.”

What Does the Oscar Mayer Bologna Mask Smell Like?

To answer the million-dollar question — it does not smell like deli meat.
I am genuinely shocked that I enjoyed the mask. Unlike typical sheet masks, the “bologna” came in two separate pieces making application easier. Plus, the mask has a comfortable rubber consistency — ahem, authentic bologna feel — rather than the usual oversized, freezing, wet paper towel feel.

Try the Bologna Mask for Yourself

The directions said to keep the mask on for 10-20 minutes. I am a firstborn and thus an overachiever, so I kept it on for 25 minutes. Truth be told, it took me that long to figure out that a selfie with this mask was just not going to look Kardashian-worthy no matter which way I turned my chin. Cue the Dwight Schrute vibes.
Also, true to its word, the product was a hydrating and restoring hydrogel mask for every skin type. I have highly sensitive skin and my face felt refreshed after wearing this mask. I would buy these again in a heartbeat if they did not look like bologna and if the price point was $2 cheaper.
Does this mask make me want to buy or consume bologna anytime soon? That’s a big NO, but I may stock on a few while they are in stock for my gifting closet for those hard-to-buy-for people in my life.

I am a lifestyle and personal finance writer based in SoCal and have been a freelance writer since way before working remotely was the new norm. Being a wife and a mom to three young awesome kids, I have made it a regular habit to check out Slickdeals (even before joining the SD content team) to help fill up my pantry and gift closet for 50-70% off retail prices. As a family of five, we go through snacks, gifts, and toilet paper at an alarming rate, so I love a good deal and am also not afraid to dig through a thrift store to score incredible finds. When not writing about amazing deals to help people save and cool things on sale, I am taking care of my three girls, homeschooling, or stuck with my nose in a book. Sometimes, at the same time.
