Old controllers with stick drift, damaged buttons or other defects may be worth taking out of storage this month. GameStop is temporarily offering the same trade-in credit for qualifying defective controllers that it normally provides for working versions.

Through August 15, 2026, participating GameStop stores will accept eligible defective official Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch controllers for the same credit offered on a fully working controller.

To qualify for this offer, customers must bring the controller to a participating GameStop location for testing. The controller must be deemed defective but cannot be completely dead or unresponsive, so stick drift, broken buttons, and similar wear and tear afflictions are the sweet spot here.

Retro controllers and third-party models are excluded, and the promotion is not available for online trade-ins. Product condition and final trade value are determined in-store, and all trades are final.
