Reading Time: 2 minutesSouthwest Airlines is currently offering free flight changes for travel booked between June 7th and August 10th. While Southwest never charges ticket change fees, this deal also frees you from paying the difference in ticket prices.
That means you could buy a ticket for the cheapest day near your preferred travel date, then switch to a more expensive travel day without paying the difference.
For example, to save money on a spring getaway with my kids, I could book the cheapest one-way ticket from Philadelphia to Fort Lauderdale, which is a one-stop $85 fare on Saturday, July 4th, and switch to a one-stop flight on Thursday, July 2nd, which is priced at $221. That would be a savings of $136/per ticket per way. For a family of four like mine, the savings would be in the hundreds.

You can use Southwest’s refund policy to cancel your flight if the promo doesn’t go through: “receive 100% of your ticket value as a refund to your original form of payment.”
OP bluking says ” I made a test booking from LGA to New Orleans and was able to book an $106 flight and change for free onto a $426 flight.” Commenter kyle116 was also able to change flights for free: “Thank you! I wasn’t able find super cheap flight but they were cheaper by $100-200 round trip”
Other commenters had mixed results, but this may be because they tried to change one of the airports or didn’t book within the specific June to August window. Use Southwest’s 24-hour cancellation policy to get a refund if the deal doesn’t work out for you.
