Samsung has officially revealed its upcoming Samsung Gaming Hub, a “content curation and discovery” gaming platform that will be built into upcoming Smart TVs.
The tech giant passed on announcing a competitor for the already saturated game streaming marketplace, Instead, Samsung is instead giving gamers an easy way to access all their favorite content in oneplace. The Samsung Gaming Hub will let you quickly jump into games using GeForce Now, Google Stadia, and Utomik. Samsung says this is “just the beginning,” and expects to see collaborations with more companies throughout 2022.
“Our Samsung Smart TVs provide the ultimate entertainment destination for everyone across generations, interests, and viewing preferences,” said Samsung Electronic’s corporate president, Won-Jin Lee. “We know that gaming continues to increase in popularity for our customers and we have bridged the gap between our Smart TV leadership and advanced gaming software to create an easier way for people to enjoy the games they love, faster. We developed the Samsung Gaming Hub with our incredible content partners to benefit all gamers, and we plan to continue our collaboration to grow the ecosystem.”
Samsung Gaming Hub is a smaller portion of the new Smart Hub, which also includes the Media and Ambient Hubs. The goal is to make it easier than ever for viewers to access content of interest. That includes YouTube, gaming, video chatting, or quickly optimizing various TV settings.
The Smart Hub should launch sometime in 2022 on select Samsung Smart TVs. It’s powered by Tizen — a Linux-based system used across the Samsung family. It will supposedly let you use controllers from connected consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation. It’s currently unknown what resolution the games will stream in, although 4K seems to be a reasonable expectation.
Expect to learn more about Samsung Gaming Hub during CES and throughout the year. CES 2022 runs from January 5th to 8th, and full details can be found on its official website.
