Galaxy Z Fold3 5G Adds Water Resistance and a Hidden Camera

After plenty of speculation and an abundance of leaks, Samsung officially revealed the Galaxy Z Fold3. As the star of the Unpacked event, Samsung spent plenty of time detailing everything there is to know about the innovative smartphone – and it looks like this might be the first folding product to break into the mainstream.
Samsung showed off an incredible list of improvements, but these are bound to be the most exciting:

  • Both internal and external screens feature a 120Hz refresh rate.
  • The front-facing camera is hidden underneath the screen, meaning there’s no notch or punch hole cluttering up your display.
  • Menus and UI have been optimized for the large screen.
  • Includes a taskbar for easy navigation.
  • Apps such as Spotify and Microsoft Teams have been optimized for the new display.

As if those features weren’t exciting enough, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is also IPX8 water resistant and makes use of a redesigned S Pen.
All that fancy tech doesn’t come cheap – the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G clocks in at $1,799.99.

Other New Products Announced at Galaxy Unpacked

Though the Galaxy Z Fold3 was certainly the most talked-about product unveiled August 11th, some other notable mentions also took the stage. If you aren’t in the market for a foldable phone, you may want to check out some of these new tech products that are soon to hit the market.

Galaxy Z Flip3 5G Gets a Bigger Front Display

  • Release Date: August 27th
  • Price: $999.99

The Z Fold3 wasn’t the only foldable smartphone on display, as we also got a closer look at the Galaxy Z Flip3. Operated in much the same way as the old Motorola RAZR from 2005, this flip phone offers a massive screen while open and a portable form-factor when snapped shut. It also features a larger front screen, meaning you can easily see who’s calling, check text messages or cycle through your playlists.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is currently available starting at $999.99. Trade-in an eligible device and that price can drop to as little as $499.99. Order through Samsung and you’ll also get $150 credit for accessories.

Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic Collaborate With Google

  • Release Date: August 25th
  • Price: $249.99 – $349.99

Beyond folding phones, Samsung showed off improvements made to its Galaxy Watch lineup, such as a collaboration with Google to make these the most user-friendly smartwatches on the market. The Watch4 Classic is a rebranding of the old Watch lineup, while the Watch4 is essentially the next in the Active family.
Regardless of which you choose, they’ll both feature the brand-new Wear OS and integrate seamlessly with other devices in the Galaxy family.
Health features such as guided workouts, Group Challenges and blood oxygen sensors are just the tip of the iceberg, with dozens of other unique features packed into the sleek design that Samsung hopes will set it apart from the competition.
The Galaxy Watch4 starts at $249.99, although trade-ins can knock that price down to a manageable $114.99. Meanwhile, the premium Watch4 Classic costs $349.99, with trade promotions reducing it to $214.99.

Samsung rounded out its showcase with a look at the new Galaxy Buds2. Offering three levels of active noise cancellation, available in four colors and with up to 20 hours of battery life with the included charging case, the Buds2 are a decent improvement over everything in the current Buds lineup.
Despite all the new features, Samsung was actually able to reduce the footprint of the Buds2, making them the lightest earbuds in the family.
The Galaxy Buds2 are now available for order. If you trade in an old audio device – such as wireless headphones or a headset – you can save an extra $20 on your purchase.
