The overall essence of video games is vibrant and colorful, as they are the ultimate expressions of interactive digital art and storytelling. So why shouldn’t the real-world spaces where we enjoy these games also be just as expressive?
I know I’m not the only one that feels this way because Razer recently introduced its newest line of gaming chairs, Enki, and one of the color options is Quartz, a powdery-pink colorway to match its large collection of Quartz gaming peripherals and gaming laptops.
Let’s take a closer look at the many ways Enki can enhance our seating experience, and why I’m such a fan of the perfectly pink theme.

The Joys of Unboxing

Unboxing a new product has always been a favorite pastime for me, and it was fun to see Razer’s personality shine through for Enki’s packaging  in the same way it does for its smaller gaming peripherals.

Everything needed to assemble the chair is in the box, including funny gaming references and a pair of Razer protective work gloves. I really got a kick out of these gloves because even as a throw-away pair, Razer still gave it the signature green highlight and made them soft and breathable. I’m definitely keeping these for future projects.
This level of thoughtfulness also extends to the preparation of Enki itself. Most of the complicated hardware is pre-installed, so all I had to do was connect the seat back to the seat bottom, and attach the wheel base with the included hex tool. That’s it!

More Room to Lounge

We all know how chairs work, so let me jump right into what makes Enki different from Razer’s first-ever chair, Iskur, and other gaming chairs in general.
First and foremost, Enki’s seating design is much wider and less restrictive than what’s traditionally been defined as a gaming chair, many of which are typically patterned after tight-fitting race car bucket seats.
Don’t get me wrong — I love the race car aesthetic, and Enki totally looks like it was plucked out of a Porsche. But since we don’t experience lateral G-forces while gaming, Enki’s side bolstering has been greatly reduced, resulting in more room to sit in different ways as well as more long-term comfort. This design was a result of direct feedback from customers who wanted to do more than simply sit with both feet flat on the ground.
Since Enki allows for more lounging positions, allow me to demonstrate just how accommodating it can be with the help of my favorite unicorn loungewear onesie.

At six feet tall and around 210 pounds, I’m able to comfortably sit with one leg folded underneath, fully crossed, or leaned over with my knee up. No matter what seating style I came up with, Enki accommodated happily without obstruction. The only reason why I wouldn’t be able to sit like this all day is because of my lack of flexibility.
So if you’d prefer to look more relaxed during your Twitch stream or YouTube Super Chat, Enki is much less strict about your posture.

Leveling-Up with Details

I think Razer knocked it out of the park with the Quartz color execution on this chair. The shade of pink is the right balance of vibrancy and boldness without seeming gaudy or distracting, and the color consistency is excellent across the different surface textures. Enki Quartz lets people know in an elegant and refined way that you’ve got a fun personality, which makes me really happy because this easily could’ve become a childish hot pink mess.

In addition to its looks, there’s a lot at work behind the scenes that contribute to Enki’s list of benefits. Shape-wise, the shoulder arches and seat base are wider and wrapped in dual-textured synthetic leather for the best balance of surface comfort and durability. It also features plush seating inserts with contrast stitching, giving it even more of a luxurious look and feel.

Enki’s cushions are also specially designed for enhanced ergonomics. The seat base cushion is gently contoured and of a softer density to better distribute weight, while the seat back cushion is firmer and features built-in lumbar support.
After rotating through the various chairs in my possession — Razer Iskur and other office-style chairs — the enhanced comfort of Enki is apparent, especially the longer you sit in it. I felt less pronounced pressure points on my butt and no pressure on my thighs, meaning I could sit still for a longer duration without feeling the need to readjust my posture. And even though side bolstering is greatly reduced on Enki, I still felt confidently supported because the seat cushion contouring and shoulder arches cradled me so well.

Enki also comes standard with a memory foam head cushion that can be fitted over the top of the seat back or strapped through the lower seat belt ports, if you have less upper body height.

Office Worker by Day, Gamer by Night

For many of us gamers, we’ve discovered that our gaming equipment actually doubles nicely as home office gear. In most, if not all cases, my gaming products perform better than any company-issued equipment, and the same is true for Enki.

Enki features lots of adjustability options including reactive seat tilt, up to 152 degrees of recline, height adjustment, tilt lock, and 4D armrests. These armrests are one of my favorite features because they allow for so much adjustment — front/back, left/right, up/down, and swivel in/out. They provide tailored ergonomic support for when I’m at my keyboard/mouse, swing in when I’m using a controller, and move out of the way when I’m waving my arms around in VR.
It’s a versatile chair that meets all of the ergonomic demands of a modern workplace or home office. Plus, my coworkers kept complimenting me on the color and styling of Enki — it comes across as comfortable even on video.
I do feel the need to caution any potential users who aren’t as tall as me. At its lowest height, Enki allows my 5-foot 4-inch partner to have her bare feet square on the ground, but a small amount of seat tilt will lift her heels up. It’s not a big deal because a foot rest or even wearing shoes will solve this issue, but it’s worth noting as you shop for the right chair.
