How to Pick the Right Dell XPS Laptop for You

Dell - XPS 17" UHD+ Touch Laptop

Processing Power: Most of the devices come with powerful Intel i7 CPUs, so the processing power shouldn’t be a big concern. Even older models that house a 9th Generation Intel Core i7-9750H pack enough punch to keep up with the computing demands of today. If longevity and portability are top priorities for you, then you can consider going for an 11th Gen CPU that features the new Intel Evo. This platform features enhancements in speed, responsiveness, battery life, and more.
Graphics Card: If you’re looking for a laptop for everyday use or productivity, then the integrated Intel graphics chips have enough kick to get you through your day. But should you have some gaming in mind, then you’ll want to opt for an XPS that has a dedicated graphics card. There are many models out there that feature a good GPU from NVIDIA, ranging from mid-range power like the GeForce GTX 1650 to a powerhouse like the RTX 2060. A dedicated graphics card is also a good choice if you delve into digital art, 3D modeling, or video effects.
Multitasking: While the processing power and graphics card can allow you to do amazing things on the screen, it is the RAM that lets you jump back and forth between tasks. For this aspect, more is definitely better but it does come at a price. The 16GB is currently the sweet spot for handling most of today’s multitaskers. But you can always futureproof your device by going for the 32GB.
Storage: All XPS laptops come with solid state drives, so your device will have speedy boot ups, file recovery, and better battery life. However, the SSDs are usually smaller with many XPS 13s only having 256GB of storage. Getting a bigger capacity can be expensive, though. An alternative is to get an external SSD which is cheaper than opting for the built-in one.
Screen: The display is probably one of the most dazzling features of the XPS line. Dell builds each laptop with a crisp and clear IPS InfinityEdge display. When looking for a new XPS, you can choose between a FHD (1920 x 1080) or UHD (3840 x 2160) screen. Of course, the higher resolution option will run a bit more. But if you plan to engage in some streaming or gaming, then the upgraded display may be worth indulging in.
Size: As mentioned before, the Dell XPS comes in three sizes: 13-inch, 15-inch and 17-inch. Which size to get depends on where you intend to use the ultrabook. If the laptop is going to be a travelling companion, then a smaller size would be best. But thanks to Dell’s design, the XPS 15 and 17 are still pretty portable too weighing in at 4 lbs and 4.65 lbs, respectively.
