Since launch, one of the biggest complaints against HBO Max was lack of accessibility on certain devices. That has changed drastically in the end of 2020, as you can now stream HBO Max on both Amazon Fire TV Stick and Roku devices. The HBO Max app was made available on Fire TV Stick in November 2020, but finalizing a deal with Roku has been trickier. After months of waiting, Roku owners can finally download the HBO Max app on their device starting Thursday, December 17.
This is just in time for the world release of Wonder Woman 1984, which will be the first blockbuster film to premiere simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max. Wonder Woman 1984 will be available to HBO Max subscribers to stream on December 25 at no extra cost. An HBO Max subscription costs $14.99 a month, which is only a bit more than the average price of a single movie ticket.

Try HBO Max

Unfortunately HBO Max discontinued its direct free trial subscriptions in the run up to the release of Wonder Woman 1984, but there is a potential work around for new customers. New subscribers may be able to try HBO Max for a week free via an add-on service like Hulu.
HBO Max has a vast library of content, largely consisting of WarnerMedia properties but also including content from other studios. You can stream content from HBO, DC Entertainment and much more. In 2021, you will also be able to stream every major Warner Bros. theatrical release on HBO Max the same day they release in theaters. This includes films like Godzilla vs. KongThe Suicide Squad and more.

If you have a 4th generation or newer Apple TV, you’re in luck. The HBO Max app is currently available on newer Apple TV models, giving you instant access to the entire HBO Max library. Unfortunately for those with a 3rd generation or older Apple TV, those devices will not be receiving the HBO Max app, and the existing HBO GO and HBO NOW apps will be decommissioned as well.
