How Much Does Paramount+ Cost?

Compared to other streaming services, Paramount+ is pretty affordable. There are two tiers of the service available, with the Essential plan coming out to $4.99 a month and the Premium plan costing $9.99 a month. You can also save a little bit more by purchasing annual plans instead of paying monthly. The annual cost is $49.99 for the Essential plan and $99.99 for the Premium tier. Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect from each tier.

Paramount+ Essential ($4.99/month, $49.99/year)

This is the basic tier of Paramount+ and includes everything below.

  • Tens of thousands of episodes & movies
  • NFL on CBS live
  • Top soccer like Champions League live
  • Limited ads
  • 24/7 live news with CBSN

Paramount+ Premium ($9.99/month, $99.99/year)

This is the Premium, ad-free tier of Paramount+ and it includes everything from the Essential package in addition to the perks below. Note that some programming may still include limited ads.
Additional perks of the Premium tier:

  • Greater selection of Live Sports
  • No ads except live TV and a few shows

  • Option to download shows to watch later

Both plans allow up to 3 users to view the platform simultaneously, and you can create unique profiles for different viewers.

Does Paramount+ Offer a Free Trial?

Yes! Paramount+ is one of the few streaming services to retain a free trial period, and it’s a pretty generous trial. You can stream Paramount+ for free for 30 days when creating a new account, and you can cancel anytime before the trial is up to avoid being charged. This is a great way to test out the service and see if it’s the right fit for you and your family.
During your free trial period, save up all the shows you want to watch and binge it all before your trial ends.

Does Paramount+ Have Commercials?

Yes, Paramount+ does have commercials.
You can opt for a reduced-ad experience by springing for a Paramount+ Premium subscription, but that will cost you an extra $5 a month and doesn’t completely eliminate ads. Select programs and live events will continue to show ads even if you go for the Premium subscription. If you’re watching on a browser however, you can download ad-blocking software to reduce the amount of ads you see.

What Can You Watch on Paramount+?

Paramount+ features content from a number of channels including CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET, and the Smithsonian Channel. You can also watch hit films from Paramount, as well as new and original series produced exclusively for Paramount+.
Unfortunately, not every series from these networks is available to stream, as some other platforms still retain the streaming rights for select programs. It’s likely that these titles, including shows like South Park and The Big Bang Theory, will eventually land on Paramount+ once those older contracts expire.
Paramount+ is also the home of CBS Live News, which offers 24/7 live news coverage. You can also stream a selection live sports, including all NFL games that air on your local CBS affiliate channel.

Yes, there is a pretty solid selection of live sports streaming on Paramount+. This includes live NFL games airing on your local CBS affiliate station, NCAA March Madness, and the UEFA Europa League and Champions League. This is one of the better perks for this service, as other streamers can charge some outrageous prices for streaming live sports.
There’s even more available when it comes to live programming because you’ll also get access to 24/7 live news coverage from CBS.

Does Paramount+ Have 4K Streaming?

Yes, you can stream select titles in 4K on Paramount+. While the library of 4K streaming content is relatively small, all signs indicate that the service is looking to bring more 4K content to its library. Currently, there is only a small collection of hit films that can be viewed in 4K.

How Does Paramount+ Compare to Other Streaming Platforms?

Paramount+ originals

Credit: Paramount+

Paramount+ occupies an interesting niche in the streaming world. While it has a solid library of content, including originals and exclusives, a good amount of its content is also available on other streaming platforms. You can watch Star Trek: The Next Generation as easily on Netflix as you can on Paramount+, which does put the streamer at a bit of a disadvantage. That’s not the only show that’s available on other streamers, but it’s likely that many of these shows will ultimately land on Paramount+ once the contracts with other streamers start to expire.

  • Exclusive Original Content

While you can find some shows on other platforms, Paramount+ is putting a lot of effort into their original content exclusive to their service. The streamer hosts a cornucopia of new and original Star Trek series, as well as a new South Park special and original films like Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. You can also watch MTV’s The Challenge: All Stars exclusively on Paramount+. So the library is expanding, and expanding fast.

  • Live Content

The biggest selling point for Paramount+ is the live content. With 24/7 live news and a selection of live sports to choose from, Paramount+ has something other streamers don’t. This is especially valuable given that you can watch NFL games on Paramount+, which is a pretty huge draw for American sports fans. Ultimately the Paramount+ library has room for growth, but there are some unique perks that can’t be ignored.

Is Paramount+ Worth It?

At $4.99 a month, Paramount+ is worth it for the price. If you enjoy next-day shows from CBS or love ViacomCBS content like MTV or Comedy Central, you will be pleased with their archive of shows and movies. If you have a family with kids, the Nickelodeon content alone would be worth the price. Ditto for Star Trek fans or anyone who has a love for Comedy Central programming.
With thousands of shows and movies, live news and sporting events, and a growing library of originals, Paramount+ is one of the fasting growing new streamers on the market. Given that competitors like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max all cost significantly more than Paramount+, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Paramount+ has a lot to offer and, with some pretty solid deals for new subscribers, there are more than enough reasons to justify the $5 price tag.
