Transforming your house into the home of your dreams doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Lowe’s offers its customers plenty of ways to save money on their home improvement needs and remodeling projects with storewide promotions, coupon codes and rebates — and we’re sharing some discount tips to help you maximize those savings.
1. Ask for a price match
Does Lowe’s price match? You bet. When it comes to getting great deals at Lowe’s, you may want to pay more attention to other stores’ prices. Just like Home Depot, Lowe’s will match a competitor’s price with retailers like Amazon, Wayfair, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and more.
Keep in mind that price matches must be completed in-store, and Lowe’s will add any shipping and handling costs in the competitor’s online quote to the final price.
- Will Lowe’s refund me if the price drops? Unfortunately, no. According to Lowe’s, “items previously purchased from Lowe’s are not eligible for price match against competitors or updated Lowe’s pricing if the price drops.”
Heads Up! Unfortunately, Lowe’s used to take Home Depot coupons, as well as other competitors’, but it no longer does anymore.

2. Don’t be afraid to do some haggling.
If you notice an item with a damaged box or spot a floor-model version of a product you need, see if a Lowe’s employee will work with you on the price.
- Each associate can negotiate up to 10-20% off certain items if customers make the request, so don’t be shy!
Most stores even have a specific section for damaged goods with a wide range of savings on everything from scratched appliances to unwanted gallons of paint. If you don’t feel like shelling out for Zoro or Valspar, this is a great way to renovate on the cheap.
3. Save 10-30% when you buy in bulk.
At Lowe’s, if you buy more, you save more, which is especially helpful when you’re building a home or working on an extensive remodeling project that will not get much cheaper as the project goes on.
Look for products that feature “Contractor Pack” labels to score lower prices when you purchase these items in high quantities.
Similarly, it’s smart to visit the ProServices desk and let a store employee know that you plan to buy in bulk. Lowe’s contractor discounts also can include volume discount pricing, which can save you between 10% and 30% depending on your purchase amount.
4. Shop online.
One of the easiest ways to save money at Lowe’s is by shopping online. The store’s website includes a Savings Center with 30% to 50% off certain departments and products. There is an entire Online Only markdown section full of must-see sitewide discounts on showerheads, home decor, refrigerators and other electrical appliances from top brands.
But what’s really wonderful about shopping online is that you can choose to pick your items up in-store. You can take full advantage of online-only promo codes and limited-time in-store offers. Plus, you don’t have to worry about loading up your cart with enough eligible purchases to qualify for free shipping. That said, you only have to spend $45 or more on qualifying orders to receive free shipping!
Splitting your trip between your local Lowe’s and the website allows you to compare the online price with the in-store price, which sometimes slightly differs. The store, of course, will honor the lower of the two thanks to its Price Promise policy. (Shoppers report that online prices are usually your better deal).
5. Use the Lowe’s credit card.
If you plan on doing a lot of shopping at Lowe’s for your home improvement needs, then applying for the store’s Advantage credit card may just prove beneficial. Cardholders receive their choice of 5% off storewide, special financing on purchases over $299 or 84 fixed monthly payments on purchases over $2,000.
Ultimately, these exclusive perks can save you some serious cash on those costly remodeling projects. This 5% discount can’t be applied to a gift card purchase or combined with a military personnel discount or the Price Promise.
- Slick Tip: You don’t need a receipt to return items purchased at Lowe’s with your Lowe’s credit card.
Deal Alert: Get up to a $100 discount when you open and use a new account.
6. Enjoy special discounts.
Lowe’s offers a military discount with their Military Personnel Discount Program that slashes 10% off most full-price items with a valid military ID, no coupon code required. This discount is available to anyone currently serving in or who is a veteran of the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, NOAA, U.S. PHS or National Guard. Lowe’s Military Discount Program also extends to the registered service member’s respective spouse and doesn’t limit how savings per year.
You can verify your eligibility here to begin using your discount in-store or online.
Heads up! Lowe’s does not offer a senior discount. They also got rid of their Lowe’s 20% off coupon that previous shoppers could get from the USPS after moving homes.
7. Understand what months to shop.
The store discounts all kinds of home improvement must-haves throughout the year, but some savings are at their peak during specific months and seasons:
- March through September: Save on garden supplies, grills, patio furniture and outdoor decor.
- May through August: Save on flooring, paint, lighting, sinks, faucets, cabinets and windows.
- November through December: Save on select tools, storage and cleaning products.
You’ll also want to shop the store’s “Sidewalk Sales,” which usually take place a few times per year on the first or Even on a day-to-day basis, there are important limited-time offers and discounts to consider. Don’t forget to check out the Deal of the Day, where you can find major markdowns and promo codes on something as simple as drinkware and as extravagant as spa-worthy home appliances. You can also sign up for Lowes email newsletter to hear about the latest coupon codes, free shipping offers and seasonal home decor markdowns.
8. Shop during sales.
Lowe’s enthusiasts know the retailer goes all out during the holidays and their annual SpringFest that takes place in April. Here are some typical trends we noticed during the last few years:
- Father’s Day: Great time to get heavily discounted tools and other home improvement products for up to 50% off.
- SpringFest: Lowe’s SpringFest savings on garden and home goods are some of the best offered by the retailer year-round.
- Presidents’ Day: This is the holiday weekend to get 30-50% off large appliances, like fridges and washer/dryer units.
- Memorial Day: We’d recommend this holiday weekend to grab a discounted grill at Lowe’s before they raise in price for the summer.
9. Look for rebates.
Having trouble deciding on the perfect appliance? Fisher & Paykel might be on the Special Values page, but a similar model from Whirlpool just showed up in the Weekly Ad. There are so many promo codes and limited-time coupons, how could you possibly choose?
Always check the store’s online Rebate Center for current manufacturer rebates and information on potential tax credits or utility refunds. From time to time, these appliance deals might even include a gift card or discount code. These incentives can help you narrow down your search for a specific appliance. Plus, Lowe’s makes it easy to browse and submit current rebate offers or check on a submitted rebate’s status.
10. Sign up for Lowe’s subscription service.
If you have items you frequently find yourself at Lowe’s getting over and over again, you might want to opt for their subscription service to save 5% and get free shipping. Here are some types of products that qualify for this option:
- Cleaning supplies
- Air filters/water filters
- Lawn and garden
Save yourself the trips to the store and the extra bucks that’ll add up over time with this convenient option.
11. Cut your lumber, wires, carpet, chains and more for free at Lowe’s.
As Lowe’s says, they make your home improvement projects easier by helping you cut your wood for free at Lowe’s if you purchase it there. Better yet, this includes “mini-blinds, wireshelving, pipe, rope, chain, carpet and electrical wiring.”
Need some pipe threading and cutting? Lowe’s has you covered there, too, with their “machine‐based cutting operation with a metal wheel that creates threads in the ends of pipes” that’s also bladeless. Avoid the pain and time by coming to your local Lowe’s and let them handle your hard work.
12. Buy plants at Lowe’s with their 1-year plant guarantee
If you purchase trees, shrubs or perennials at Lowe’s and they don’t survive for a year, you can bring your receipt and plant to the retailer. Lowe’s will then replace your dead plant with a new one to give you another crack at harnessing your green thumb.
- Slick Tip: Check out the clearance section for any plants that might be 75-90% off. Keep in mind that they might be in rough shape, and you’ll have to likely repot or nurse it back to full strength!
13. Stay connected.
As with most stores, it’s a good idea to sign up for Lowe’s emails if you want to stay updated on current sales and available coupons. The store also has a mobile app for iOS and Android, and app users occasionally receive exclusive in-app discount codes and Special Values offers.
Register for a MyLowe’s account to get easier returns, handy shopping lists and a record of previous purchases (which can make life easier when you can’t remember the exact shade of paint you used in your bedroom). You can also score discounts on shipping by signing up for a Lowes account. As long as you spend $45 or more on the website (after coupons), your order qualifies for free shipping. You can also link your MyLowe’s account to their app to make accessing your account even easier.
