As the weather warms up, sports and outdoor activities will probably be on your agenda. And as a Slickdealer, trying to find the best gear and equipment for less is a top priority.
With the Dick’s Sporting Goods ScoreCard, you can enjoy incentives and rewards that may just kill these two birds with one stone. But not all rewards cards are created equal. So, we’re going to break it down and see if the Dick’s ScoreCard is really worth it.

The Fundamentals of the Dick’s ScoreCard

Unlike an REI Co-op’s Membership, Dick’s Rewards Program is free. As with many retailers’ rewards programs, shoppers can earn rewards points and eventually convert them to cash to use towards future purchases.
These points can be earned online and in-store for Dick’s Sporting Goods shops, Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream.

How Rewards Points Work:

  • Earn 1 point for each dollar spent on qualified purchases (exclusions apply)
  • 300 Points = $10 Rewards
  • The rewards can only be redeemed in $10 (300 Points) increments
  • Points expire one year after issue

There are also plenty of other ways to earn bonus rewards points, as well, including:

  • Redeeming Bonus Point Coupons that Dick’s occasionally sends via email
  • Downloading and logging into your account with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Mobile App (50 Points)
  • Joining MOVE in the Mobile App (100 Points and 3 Points daily for achieving a daily activity goal)
  • Choosing to receive your rewards via email
  • Signing up for a ScoreRewards credit card (Up to 3X Points on qualified purchases)

Besides the points system, rewards members also gain inside access to exclusive gear, special discounts, coupons and giveaways.

How Does Dick’s Rewards Program Face Off with REI and Columbia?

When it comes to the numbers, the Dick’s rewards program nets you about 3% back on your purchases. This may pale in comparison to REI’s Co-op (10%) and Columbia’s Greater Rewards (5%), but it is all about the bigger picture. Dick’s offers more sport-focused products and brands that its competitors do not. If that’s important to you, the Dick’s ScoreCard could provide more value.
Also, the in-app feature, MOVE, may be the most rewarding part of Dick’s program to both your wallet and your body.
As mentioned before, you can earn 3 points for hitting the daily activity goal. If you manage to hit it every day of the year, you’re looking at over 1000 points (or $30 in rewards) just for staying active. Don’t worry, the goals don’t get into “climb Mount Everest” territory. It’s usually simple challenges like walking or running 3 miles.

Is the Dick’s Sporting Goods ScoreCard Good for You?

If you are already an active person, becoming a member is a great way to earn rewards for just going about your everyday life.
And if you happen to also have kids that participate regularly in sports, then this rewards program is definitely worth a try. After all, the Dick’s ScoreCard membership is free, so there’s no risk in trying it out.
However, the more generally outdoorsy shopper who doesn’t care about specific sports brands is probably better off at REI or Columbia.
