I’ve been rocking the Shelburne Parka this frigid winter season, and while $995 is more than what I’d normally pay for a jacket, things changed during the on-going pandemic. I haven’t eaten indoors since everything went down, and whenever I do meet up with close friends and family, it’s outdoors.
This meant that my flimsy faux fur jackets that were purely worn for style purposes weren’t going to cut it. As soon as I put on the Canada Goose parka, my moments out of the house have never been the same. One thing’s for sure, I’m no longer freezing, and ahead, you’ll see why it’s a best-seller for a number of reasons.
No More Sacrificing Style, Even If You’re Under 5 Foot

I’m 4’9,” and one of the reasons I never bought a parka that extended past my waist is because I didn’t want it to swallow my figure. Considering a coat would become the centerpiece of my winter wardrobe, I wanted to actually like what I was wearing.
I got an XS, and I couldn’t be happier with the flattering fit of the Shelburne Parka. Additionally, I love that the arms fit just right and cover up to half of my hands allowing for extra warmth as I tend to forget my gloves behind. Since I’m so short, the parka ends up going past my knees, which I prefer as it keeps more of my body warm. All in all, it’s an ideal fit in all the right places.
Easily Keeps You Warm Even in the Lowest Freezing Temperatures

Not being able to withstand snow is another major issue I had with what I thought were heavy-duty jackets. The Shelburne is water-resistant and designed to hold up against temperatures as low as -4°F, which is surprisingly only in the middle of Canada Goose’s Thermal Experience Index. On the inside, the parka features sustainably sourced white duck down material, ensuring it can stand up against ice-cold weather.
The brand tests products in the most extreme temperatures, and there are parkas that can handle some of the coldest places in the world at -22°F. I just go back and forth between New York City and Richmond, Virginia, making it ideal for these chilly cities.
I Love the Bonus Features Like Clever Interior Backpack Straps

Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the parka is its coyote-lined fur hood that can be taken on and off depending on your look. Furthermore, my favorite feature is the interior backpack straps, which I’ve been making the most out of during socially distant visits to the museum. This way, I can stay hands-free without burning up indoors, instead of having to inconveniently hold the big jacket over my arms when walking around.
There’s no forgetting that you can unbutton the bottom half of the parka. Given all the times I’m not taking the coat off outdoors, this makes sitting around a lot more comfortable. Plus, it allows me to move around easier, which is ideal considering how much longer I have it on compared to past winters.
Cleaning Is Never an Issue

There’s nothing I dread more than cleaning my winter jacket, but it’s an absolute must, especially when you join the Canada Goose squad. The jackets include sustainably sourced natural materials that are sensitive to harmful materials, which means exposure to any dirt, sweat, oils and more will cause the outwear to degrade and change color over time.
To avoid this from happening, it’s important to dry clean the coat. Remember to remove the fur trim beforehand, and never machine-wash your parka as not only will that void the warranty, you’ll damage it. At the same time, none of us are perfect, so if you happen to spill or get something on it, don’t panic. It may be a fancy coat, but I’ve gotten stains and dirt off by slightly spot washing it with bleach-free detergent and water.

A Lifetime Warranty
Still not convinced? I’m not the only one that loves this product; in fact, it has a 92% customer recommendation rating.
But if you still think it’s all hype, a good way to know if a company truly believes in the products is through the warranty policy. Canada Goose has a lifetime warranty, and it’s protected against “defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product — which means the usual and customary wearable life of the product, by the original owner,” according to the company site. Note: The warranty cancels out if the inside garment tags are removed, and typically, you should allow a four-week turnaround time for the coat to be fixed and returned to you.
In addition, shipping and returns are always complimentary. While the Canadian brand makes it clear that the company never offers sale prices, there are other retailers featuring underrated savings that carry the brand.
