TCL introduced the world to its XL Collection of 85-inch TVs in 2021. The collection offered customers of different budgets a chance to snag the ultimate centerpiece for their entertainment room. This year, during CES 2022, TCL announced a huge addition to the group. It revealed a 98-inch QLED monitor powered by Google TV.
TCL isn’t the first to create a jumbo-sized, 98-inch QLED TV. But the company’s new model (named the 98R754) does several things to set itself apart from the competition. Most notable is its price tag. Listed at an eye-watering $8,000, the 98R754 is actually one of the most affordable 98-inch TVs on the market. In fact, just three years ago we were excited to see a 98-inch Samsung TV go on sale for $70,000 – so having one available for a fraction of that in 2022 is pretty incredible.
Even today, most products in this category boast price tags well over $10,000, which positions the TCL screen to become the “budget” option for shoppers who’d rather sell their car than take out a second mortgage to purchase a TV.
Aside from the gigantic screen size and the move to Google TV (TCL largely uses Roku TV), the 98R754 gets a lot of things right. You’ll have four HDMI ports for other gadgets, two USB-A ports, an ethernet port and a 4K resolution with HDR support. Here’s a closer look at its stat sheet:

  • 98-inch QLED display
  • 4K resolution
  • HDR Pro Pack featuring Dolby Vision
  • Voice Control via Google TV
  • Chromecast built-in
  • AiPQ Engine to enhance lower resolution images
  • Variable refresh rates
  • WiFi 6 support
  • 4 HDMI inputs (1 eARC)

TCL said the 98-inch TV is now available at select retailers, although we had a bit of trouble finding any in-stock near our location. Expect to see a substantial roll-out in the coming weeks.
