Reading Time: 2 minutesNintendo has officially delayed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, which is now slated for a spring 2023 launch. After being revealed during E3 2021, the long-awaited title was expected to arrive this year. Now, Nintendo needs to spend a bit more time on its development.
Little had been revealed about Breath of the Wild 2 since E3. Seeing as most developers have bumped release dates over the past year, it comes as little surprise that Nintendo is following suit. In fact, the game still doesn’t have an official title. The recent announcement simply called it “The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.”
“We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game,” said Eiji Aonuma, producer of the Zelda series. “However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologize.”
Aonuma went on to say that the delay will allow the development team to craft “something special” that will live up to player hype. Aside from the Breath of the Wild 2 delay, little else was revealed. Aonuma reiterated that the game would take place both on land and in the sky, showing off some short clips of footage – although revealing little that we didn’t already know. Anyone looking for more Breath of the Wild 2 news should stay tuned.
