Reading Time: 4 minutesRobotic vacuums have become the standard for household cleaning devices. While many innovative features are generally reserved for the most high end models, the Roborock Q7 Max+ packs a robust list of specs with a mid-range price.
This is my first foray into robotic vacuums and while some concepts are new to me, many of the traditional vacuuming caveats apply such as suction power, noise level, size of dustbin, etc. Some of those new concepts like zones, scheduling and mapping are all welcoming features.
I’ve spent years with a cordless vacuum meticulously developing strategies for the most efficient route. Now I just hit “Clean” and spend the time that I would have been vacuuming doing something more meaningful. If that sounds like something you could benefit from, consider the Roborock Q7 Max+.
Product Snapshot: Roborock Q7 Max+
The Q7 Max+ is part of a new series from Roborock which offers a lower price alternative to some of the higher-end models that they offer. But lower price doesn’t mean compromise. The Q7 Max+ parallels its older siblings in the S-series with suction while providing a more feature rich experience than the inexpensive E-series vacuuming and mopping robots.

Cleaning Gamified
I had expected a complicated setup, but the experience from unboxing to vacuuming was remarkably simple. Roborock guides you every step of the way with their simple to understand user guide and easy to follow mobile application. Once charged and connected to your wifi, the Q7 Max+ automatically finds the Auto-Empty Dock Pure charging base/dust collector and maps it as its home base.
From this point you can choose to let the Q7 Max+ autonomously navigate your home while simultaneously vacuuming and mapping or use the Quick Mapping feature to build a full 2D map of your space. 3D mapping is also supported if you’re aiming for the most accurate representation of your home. With the Quick Mapping feature, the Q7 Max+ was able to map about 1100 sqft in less than 10 mins. Using its LiDar sensors, it was able to map every room and obstacle in its path very accurately. As the Q7 Max+ moves around the house, you can visually see the mapping done in real time with the mobile application. Every room it enters, every object it comes across is scanned and mapped. Each iteration the map gets clearer and more refined allowing for the routing to be optimized and efficient.
The map of your home gets saved and rooms are automatically recognized. This allows for precision customization of how the Q7 Max+ will go about cleaning each room or zone in your home. From routines, No-Go zones, suction power to even floor material, every possible customization can be done to maximize the cleaning potential of your home. This is possibly the most fun I’ve ever had while cleaning.
One of the most interesting features to me was the simultaneous vacuum and mopping. As the Q7 Max+ vacuums at the front, the mop attachment is pulled along behind appling a consistent mop pressure of 300g. The Water Tank and Dustbin are thoughtfully combined into one unit allowing for emptying and filling to happen on the same trip.
The best test for this was definitely the kitchen. With bright white porcelain tiles and a cute pup, the kitchen needs to be mopped regularly. While the Q7 Max+ has the potential to mop up to 2583 sqft, my kitchen is no more than 90 sqft so I was able to program multiple clean cycles with the maximum amount of water flow for the best result. It takes about 10 mins per cycle but after the second pass I was left with clean kitchen floors! With some tweaking I think I can get the cycle time lower with better results.
Clean-up and maintenance is all managed through the mobile application. As it tracks its cleaning history, it also tracks the wear and use of all the brushes, filters and sensors providing you with a simple percentage of its use. The dustbin itself is a very simple open and dump while the Auto-Empty Dock Pure is equipped with a dust bag. All the brushes are very easy to remove to clean or replace. I’ve yet to find any complications with this device.
Should You Buy the Roborock Q7 Max+?
Cleaning is a chore by nature, but playing with a smart connected device optimizing its every move and watching as it does the chore in real time isn’t. It’s pure entertainment if you ask me, and having the Q7 Max+ keep a minimum standard of cleanliness is worth the time, effort and money.
It’s really close to being the ideal vacuum and mopping robot for me. While the Auto-Empty Dock Pure is excellent at extracting small dust and debris from the Q7 Max+ it has a hard time removing all of the dog hair from the dustbin when it’s too full. This can be addressed by programming the vacuum to empty its dust bin more frequently during its cleaning routines.
