Reading Time: 2 minutesOnePlus has long been a champion of affordable phones, Many of its products clock in at prices far below the competition. Its Nord lineup is a particular favorite among budget-minded shoppers. On February 17th the company is giving us a full reveal of the Nord CE 2 5G. Ahead of the event, OnePlus has released new images of the smartphone. They show off a device that boasts a new color and a bold new camera design.
Shared exclusively with TechRadar, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G images give us our first official look at the upcoming handset. It looks very similar to the last-gen Nord CE. There are two key differences: its new Bahama Blue color and the oversized rear cameras. The team at OnePlus said they wanted to give the cameras a futuristic look without becoming too obtrusive. However, it’s still unclear what sort of cameras are hiding behind the new curves.
“Using a one-piece molding process, the crystal-clear camera module rises naturally from the back of the phone in an elegant curve,” said Oliver Zhang, head of product at OnePlus. “Our designers also added a CD ring with a metal-like texture on the main and ultra-wide camera to enhance the futuristic impression of the camera module.”
As for the Bahama Blue colorway, it’s one of two options that will be available with the Nord CE 2 5G. The other is dubbed Gray Mirror. It will likely resemble the silver option seen on other OnePlus smartphones.
Most of the hardware powering the upcoming smartphone is still under wraps. We do know it’ll use a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, support 65W fast charging, and come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. And as the name suggests, it’ll come with support for 5G networks.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G isn’t meant to compete with flagships such as the OnePlus 9 Pro 5G. It isn’t even competing with the standard OnePlus 9 5G. Instead, the Nord lineup brings surprising performance and vivid displays to the low and mid-range marketplace. Last year saw the release of the Nord CE. It never managed to make its way to the United States, with availability limited to India and Europe. It’s unclear if the Nord CE 2 5G will share the same fate. We can expect to learn more about launch plans on February 17th.
How Much Will the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G Cost?
OnePlus is yet to reveal the Nord CE 2 5G’s price tag. We’d expect it to clock in below $500. That’s if it ever sees the light of day in the States. Interestingly, last year’s OnePlus Nord CE carried a price tag of £299 (around $400). It’s unlikely the company would significantly raise prices for a product line that’s coveted for its low price tag.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G launch event is happening on February 17 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The company typically streams these to both its website and YouTube channel.
